In May last year, the French superstar seemingly put to bed all speculation about his immediate future when he signed what was believed to be a three-year extension with Les Parisiens.

It has since been reported that the final year on the Bondy native's deal is optional, meaning he is now likely approaching the last 12 months of his contract.

The forward was said to be unhappy with the club's transfer business at the beginning of the campaign, and according to RMC Sport, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is waiting to see what quality signings the team brings in before committing his long-term future to the club.

The five-time Ligue 1 winner was also said to be upset about not receiving his bonus on time at the start of the season. The France captain is now believed to be set to receive a massive €90 million (R1.8 billion) if he is still a PSG player at the start of the 2023/24 season, with the chiefs at the Parc des Princes said to be confident about their talisman's willingness to stay put for at least another season.

With Mbappe seemingly waiting to see what incomings, and outgoings, the club makes during the next transfer window, the person largely responsible for that at the club is Luis Campos, and the same report claims that the Portuguese executive and the 2022 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winner have a close relationship.

The Clairefontaine alumni worked with the 58-year-old during their time together at Monaco and the pacey attacker is said to trust him.
