Barca President Sends Message To Messi After LaLiga Title Win

Following Barcelona's first LaLiga title win without Lionel Messi since 1999, the club's president has sent a clear message to the Argentine amid joyous celebrations.

The Catalan giants secured a 4-2 away win over city rivals Espanyol on Sunday night, a result that confirmed their first league title in Messi's absence since the 1998/99 campaign.

The Argentine was in Barcelona's squad for 10 of their past 11 league-winning seasons, and the 2022 FIFA World Cup champion could soon be back at his boyhood club if president Joan Laporta gets his way in the coming months.

Speaking after the Blaugrana's latest LaLiga title was confirmed, the 60-year-old insisted they are going to go all out to lure the seven-time Ballon d'Or victor back to Barca ahead of the 2023/24 season.

"We will do everything we can to bring Leo Messi back to Barcelona," he told Jijantes FC.

"We are already working on next year's team. We hope to be able to reinforce the team.

"We are in an austerity plan at the club to be able to have enough fair-play to allow us to improve the team. We are doing our homework to be able to have an even more competitive team next season."

It appears Messi will leave Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires in June, although he did return to their starting XI on Saturday, in the team's 5-0 win over Ajaccio in Ligue 1, following his short suspension for an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia.
