Uncertain Future For Pirates Veteran?

Uncertain Future For Pirates Veteran?

Veteran striker Ndumiso Mabena made a shock return to Orlando Pirates this year, and news reaching the Siya crew, is that his future looks uncertain.

Mabena was signed by the Buccaneers during the January transfer window as a free agent after the player parted ways with Royal AM.

Indications from sources is that discussions on the way forward for the 35-year-old look set to be held in the coming days.

"Its hard to understand why he was signed in the first place as it seems the technical team don't really believe in him. The club doesn't want to say they will send him on loan because his contract is ending in June next year. So even if he goes on loan it will be of no use," a source revealed to the Siya crew.

"So they have decided to terminate the contract at the end of the current season. Just like most strikers that the club has this season, he has contributed very little and they feel there is no need to keep him for another season. He is 35 years old and sending him on loan won't make sense and I think that's why they just want to set him free," the source said.

Mabena, who played for Pirates earlier in his career, has alos featured for the likes of Platinum Stars, Bloemfontein Celtic before the club was sold and renamed to Royal AM.

The Siya crew reached out to the club, who declined to comment.
