Chelsea Owner 'Calls His Players Embarrassing'

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly reportedly told his players that their form is "embarrassing" after their latest loss this past weekend.

The 49-year-old and his co-owners have invested about £600 million (R13.5 billion) in new signings over the course of the season, but the team is languishing in the bottom half of the table.

According to The Telegraph, the American chief entered the Blues' dressing room after their 2-1 defeat to Brighton Hove Albion on Saturday and made it known that their current standards are unacceptable.

It is said that when Boehly arrived at the changing room, he let interim boss Frank Lampard finish his post-match review before addressing the players about their sub-par performances. It is further claimed, though, that he also told them that the season is still salvageable in the UEFA Champions League.

With the west Londoners trailing reigning champions Real Madrid 2-0 in their quarter-final tie, the club executive is said to have told the squad he believes they can overturn the deficit in the return leg on Tuesday night.

With Chelsea having already fired Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter this season, Lampard is yet to win a game since taking over, and the team's fans are becoming increasingly frustrated with the club's ownership, as was evidenced when Boehly was seen in tense discussions with some Blues supporters at Stamford Bridge after the Brighton defeat.
