Zwane Not Throwing In The Towel For CAF CL Spot

Zwane Not Throwing In The Towel For CAF CL Spot

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has discussed why they still have hope of qualifying for the CAF Champions League after a damaging 1-1 draw against Marumo Gallants.

Chiefs were in good form leading up to the game after winning four league games in a row but their chances of finishing second were affected after they dropped two points against Bahlabane Ba Ntwa.

Amakhosi's rivals for second spot, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United, who are both tied on points in second and third respectively, won their respective games and that meant the Glamour Boys are two points behind them in fourth spot on the table, with five matches to go.

Zwane says they won't give up on their ambitions to qualify for the CAF Champions League, as tougher games are coming for everyone, with teams fighting for relegation and top eight spots.

"Ja, look, there's five more games to go, there's a lot to play for, anything can happen, there's a lot of teams fighting to avoid relegation, teams that want to be in the top eight, so there are no easy games for everyone," Zwane said in a press conference after their draw against Gallants.

"Ja, we could have grabbed maximum points on this one, it's one of those, we just have to go back and prepare ourselves for the next one, it's gonna be after a cup game.

"So, ja we won't give up, this is football, sometimes you find yourself in this situation and we always put ourselves in this situation where we could have the situation even better for us," he said.

'Mangethe' is also banking on the fact that they still have to play SuperSport in their penultimate game of their league season in May and explained that it's up to them to win their remaining matches.

"So, ja, it's all up to us, we still have to play SuperSport and as I said, this is a game of football, we can do better. So it's gonna be more like test our character from now on going forward," he added.

Chiefs' remaining five league matches:

v Sekhukhune United (A)

v Chippa United (A)

v Swallows (H)

v SuperSport United (A)

v Cape Town City (H)

Amakhosi will take a break from league worries as they visit Royal AM in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final on Sunday evening.
