Zamalek President: My Prison Sentence Is To Blame For Poor Form

Zamalek president Mortada Mansour has blamed his prison sentence for the team's poor form this season.

Mansour had been away from the team for a month after spending time in jail for verbally insulting Al Ahly president Mahmoud El-Khatib.

Soliman Wahdan replaced Mansour as the president on interim basis, before the 70-year-old returned earlier this month.

However, Mansour feels his absence had a direct effort on the first team, who sit fourth on the Egyptian Premier League table and were eliminated from the CAF Champions League group stages.

"What is happening with Zamalek is not fair because usually when a father of a family is imprisoned, the children are affected and that of course, leads to negative results," Mansour said via the club's TV channel.

"Jesualdo Ferreira was responsible for not playing the new signings and that is why people were very quick to write them off.

"The players were affected by my imprisonment, and this resulted in us dropping six points in the CAF Champions League group stages."
