Eight years after he was first promoted to the Chiefs first team from the club's development structures, Kwinika has established himself as a mainstay for the Glamour Boys this season.

Stints at Chippa United, Thanda Royal Zulu, Bidvest Wits and Stellenbosch FC came in between; but Kwinika is back home at the Chiefs village.

Kwinika's father Robert, despite being overjoyed at the 28-year-old's return to Amakhosi, is yet to make his way to the FNB Stadium and the reason for that has since been revealed.

Having managed to lift silverware in his maiden season with Chiefs in 2015, the club's last trophy, Kwinika senior says he will only attend a live match if the Soweto giants reach a cup final.

"I explained to him that since you are back, you have to work hard. The last time there were trophies is the year he got promoted [2015]. So, since then, Kaizer Chiefs hasn't won any trophy. He even knows that since he came back, he needs to work hard so that they win trophies," he told KC TV.

"Like now, I haven't officially went to the stadium and watch a Kaizer Chiefs game. That is what I told him, I want to see him on a final and that is the only time I will come and see him play, that is for a final," he continued.

Chiefs remain in the running for second spot on the DStv Premiership and have secured a Nedbank Cup quarter final berth as they hope to end their ongoing eight-year trophy drought.
