Misfiring PSG Suffer Back-To-Back Ligue 1 Losses

Paris Saint-Germain suffered a second successive Ligue 1 defeat after going down 1-0 to Olympique Lyon on Sunday night.

Result: Paris Saint-Germain 0-1 Olympique Lyon

Date: 02 April 2023

Venue: Parc des Princes

PSG coach Christopher Galtier made three changes from the loss to Rennes before the international break, with Marquinhos, Achraf Hakimi and Renato Sances earning recalls.

Lyon, meanwhile, were boosted by the return of Anthony Lopes in goal, while Sinally Diomande, Thiago Mendes and Rayan Cherki were also given starts.

The Paris outfit came into the clash unbeaten in their last four league meetings against Lyon, who were looking to make a late push for a European spot.

However, Lyon's plans were dented early on when Amin Sarr was forceed off with an injury in the 18th minute and had to be replaced by Bradley Barcola.

While PSG struggled to carve out chances, the visitors were then awarded a penalty seven minutes before the break after goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma brought down Alexandre Lacazette.

Lacazette dusted himself off to take the spot-kick, but the Frenchman rattled his spot-kick against the upright before Nicolas Tagliafico blazed over from the rebound.

Christophe Galtier's charges, meanwhile, looked a shadow of themselves for most of the first half, even though they had most of the possession.

The visitors would go on to grab the opening goal ten minutes after the restart when Saël Kumbedi did well to pick out Barcola in the box, with the substitute converting with a first-time effort.

PSG coach Galtier responded with a double change on the hour mark as Fabian Ruiz and Hugo Ekitike replaced Marco Verratti and El Chadaille Bitshiabu.

Donnarumma came to PSG's rescue with 20 minutes left on the clock, as the Italian shot-stopper produced a fine save to keep out Barcola's stinging effort from just outside the box.

PSG, meanwhile, looked out of ideas in the for most of the second half and could not find a way get themselves back into the contest.

As a result, PSG suffer their fifth defeat of the league season and are now only six points ahead of second-place RC Lens and Olympique Marseille.
