Aurelien Tchouameni and Rodrygo were restored to the Los Blancos line-up by Carlo Ancelotti, as Lucas Vazquez replaced the suspended Nacho on the right side of the defence.

The home side dominated from the onset but had to wait until the 22nd minute for the opening goal as Rodrygo collected a pass from Marco Asensio before drilling the ball beyond Sergio Asenjo.

The lead was doubled seven minutes later when Benzema got his first on the night by turning home Vinicius Junior's clever flick to the far post.

Los Blancos showed no signs of slowing as Benzema got his second and the side's third goal on 32 minutes, with the French forward curling a neat strike into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Benzema capped off with a wonderful first half seven minutes later by completing his hat-trick with a superb overhead-kick after some good work by Rodrygo down the right flank.

Ancelotti's charges looked to continue that momentum in the second half, as Vinicius pounced on an error by Fesneda to go clear on goal, but the Brazilian was denied by Asenjo.

Los Blancos had the ball in the back of the net for a fifth time on 65 minutes through Rodrygo, but the celebrations were ruled out for a handball in the build-up.

The fifth goal did arrive in the 76th minute, as Asensio got his name on the score-sheet with a smashing finish with his left boot after collecting  a pass from Rodrygo.

The hosts had a couple more sights at goal in the latter stages,  and they would go on to get a sixth goal in second-half stoppage time thanks to Vazquez's finish, with substitute Eden Hazard picking up the assist.
