Hughton Reacts To Debut As Ghana Boss

Hughton Reacts To Debut As Ghana Boss

Former Brighton Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton has given his thoughts on his Ghana side's performance on his managerial debut.

The former Premier League manager took charge of his first game as head coach of the four-time African Cup of Nations (AFCON) winners when Ghana went up against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium.

It took a 96th-minute strike from Bournemouth striker Antoine Semenyo for the west Africans to secure a narrow 1-0 win and go to the top of the Group E in AFCON qualification.

However, while Hughton was able to maintain Ghana's 23-year unbeaten run for major tournament qualification in Kumasi, the English-born tactician emphasised the need to be more clinical in front of goal.

"We've had 11 chances so that's the first positive," Hughton as in his post-match press conference, as per Joy Online.

"If you were telling me that we played 96 minutes and we only had two or three chances then that's worrying but the fact that we have had chances you always know…come the next game or next game after, you're going to put some of the chances away," he said after the game.

"The only thing we learned is that we need to be a little more clinical when we have the opportunities."
