Result: Brighton and Hove Albion 3-0 Liverpool

Date: 14 January 2023

Venue: AMEX Stadium

Cody Gakpo was given a first Premier League start while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came in for the injured Darwin Nunez in the attack.

For Brighton, World Cup winner Alex Mac Allister was back in the squad while there was no place in the squad Leandro Trossard who scored a hat-trick at Anfield earlier this season.

The hosts looked lively in the early sages, with Solly march seeing his effort close-range effort cleared off the line by the Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool, meanwhile, struggled to get going in the attack as the likes of Mohamed Salah and Gakpo were unable to test Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

The home side managed to earn themselves a penalty five minutes before the break when March was brought down by Allison Becker, however that decision was overturned by VAR for an offside.

March did get his reward a minute after the interval after turning home Mitoma's deflected cross after Liverpool failed to clear their lines.

The lead was doubled in the 53rd minute as March latched onto a through-ball from Ferguson before sending a superb finish beyond Allison to complete his brace.

Jurgen Klopp had seen enough and made a quadruple change in the 68th minute , with Harvey Elliot, Joe Gomez, Naby Keita and Ben Doak coming on to help change the situation.

The visitors nearly pulled a goal back in the 76th minute as Elliot pulled one wide from close range, before Sanchez kept out Gakpo's effort a couple minutes later.

However, Brighton ended any hopes of a Liverpool comeback when Danny Welbeck showed a great touch get past Gomez before volleying past Allison.
