Ten Hag: 'Ronaldo Chose To Say Goodbye To Man Utd'

Ten Hag: 'Ronaldo Chose To Say Goodbye To Man Utd'

With life post-Cristiano Ronaldo having just got underway at Old Trafford, Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has revealed that it was the Portuguese who wanted to leave the club.

Pep Makes 'Terrible' EPL Title Race Admission

Ronaldo's Red Devils contract was mutually terminated last month after the 37-year-old lambasted the club during an explosive interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner expressed at the time the "betrayal" he felt from the club, and has since become a free agent.

Ten Hag, however, has now insisted it is important for his side to focus on the future, highlighting that it was the Madeira-born forward who wanted to leave.

"The team has been focused on getting back to the Premier League," he told Viaplay Sport prior to United's return to league action against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

"All I see is a hungry team. I do not look back, only to the future.

"He [Ronaldo] chose to say goodbye, he is no longer part of the team. He's gone and it's in the past.

"We are now looking forward and looking at the future."

The Portuguese superstar now looks set to join Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, with a medical having reportedly been booked by the Middle East team as they grow increasingly confident of securing his signature.

Ronaldo Set For Medical With New Club?

United, meanwhile, have got off to a good start post-Ronaldo, with the record Premier League champions beating the Tricky Trees 3-0 on Tuesday night to extend their winning run to four games across all competitions.
