Following Morocco's historic 2022 FIFA World Cup run in Qatar, CAF president Patrice Motsepe has revealed his expectations for Africa's participants at the 2026 edition of the global showpiece.

The Atlas Lions became the first-ever African nation to make it as far as the semi-finals of the worldwide spectacle in Qatar as Walid Regragui and his charges immortalised themselves in African football's history books.
With many lauding the north African giants for their accomplishments in the Gulf, the president of African football's governing body is the latest to heap praise on the Moroccans.
On Tuesday afternoon, the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns chairman revealed his pride for the side, and also challenged the CAF representatives that will be competing at the 2026 tournament, which will be jointly held by Mexico, the United States of America and Canada, to go a step further than Morocco did.
"I will never ever accept it that an African nation cannot compete at the highest level in the world," Motsepe said during a press conference in which he reviewed the continent's performance in Qatar.
"Morocco has opened the doors and made us proud for all of us.
"And I am confident that at the next World Cup, an African nation will go further."
Prior to the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations winners making it to the semi-finals of football's biggest tournament, Africa's best performance at the World Cup were quarter-final appearances by Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana.
While those were impressive accomplishments within themselves, Motsepe is confident an African nation can hoist the beautiful game's most coveted prize aloft.

"In my mind, there's approximately 10 nations in Africa now that can compete at the highest level in the world and win," the South African businessman added.
"The main objective is for an African nation to win the World Cup."
