SAFA Congratulate Morocco On Making World Cup History

SAFA president Danny Jordaan has congratulated Morocco for making history at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Atlas Lions became the first African nation to advance to the semi-finals of a World Cup, as they registered a 1-0 win over Portugal.

Youssef En-Nesyri's towering header in the first half was enough to get the job done on the night, which left a certain Cristiano Ronaldo in tears at the end of the match.

Statement:

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has congratulated Morocco after the North Africans became the first country from Africa to qualify for the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup.

SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan said Morocco have made the continent proud after a battling 1-0 win over Portugal in the quarter-finals on Saturday, 10 December 2022 confirmed their place in the last four in the world's biggest sporting showpiece.

"Congratulations to Morocco. A first for Africa, first team in the semi-finals of a World Cup since the inaugural tournament in 1930," the SAFA President said.

"Africa waited for 92 years. Absolutely wonderful. A wonderful achievement for the Confederation of African Football under the leadership of our President Dr Patrice Motsepe. This is Africa's best performance at a FIFA World Cup."
