Drama: Messi Speaks After On-Field Spat With Lewandowski

Drama: Messi Speaks After On-Field Spat With Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski, Lionel Messi

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has commented on his on-field altercation with Poland skipper Robert Lewandowski following their 2022 FIFA World Cup clash on Wednesday night.

Messi Makes Unwanted FIFA World Cup History!

Towards the end of Argentina's comfortable 2-0 victory over Poland, Messi was seen rejecting a handshake from the Barcelona striker after an on-the-ball tussle.

Picking up the ball in midfield, the 37-year-old was fouled as he attempted to take Lewandowski on with a dribble, before appearing to snub his opponent's outstretched hand.

Following the final whistle at the Ras Abu Aboud Stadium, though, the two superstars were captured in conversation, seemingly making up after their on-field incident.

Messi said he would not reveal what was said between him and the former Bayern Munich striker while speaking after the game.

"I respect everyone, both on and off the pitch and there is no problem," he said, according to Barca Universal

"It's nothing, nothing. He doesn't speak Spanish… and I was taught that everything that happens on the pitch stays on the pitch, and everything that happens in the dressing room stays in the dressing room.

"I will never reveal what we said to each other privately."

Messi missed a penalty in the first half of the 2021 Copa America champions' win over the Poles, but had his blushes saved by second-half strikes from Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvarez.
