Report: British Billionaire Makes Makes U-Turn On Up-For-Sale Man Utd

Sir Jim Ratcliffe

One of the richest men in the United Kingdom has reportedly re-emerged as a potential buyer for Manchester United after the Glazer family put the club up for sale this week.

Reason For Glazers' Sale Of Man Utd Revealed?

Earlier this year, it was said that Sir Jim Ratcliffe was readying a move to purchase the Red Devils from its American owners until he revealed that, during talks with the Glazer family, it was clear the club was not on the market.

This week, however, the 20-time English champions confirmed in a statement that it would seeking new investment, with it believed this will lead to a full sale in the near future.

As a result of the news that has pleased fans, the Daily Telegraph has claimed that Ratcliffe, who has made his millions in the petrochemicals industry, will be among those in contention to purchase the club.

The 70-year-old is said to be "wary" of the £5 billion (R102 billion) asking price, but is considered to be a serious candidate should he be able to put together a strong consortium.

United's current owners took charge of the club in 2005 while legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson was still at the helm.

Following early on-field success under their ownership, supporters became concerned by the Glazers' lack of investment in the club, something Cristiano Ronaldo recently pointed out in an explosive interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan.

Behind the scenes, it is believed the Glazer family has been open to a sale for months but went public with their intentions in response to Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group, placing the Merseyside team in the shop window earlier this month.
