What Messi Did After Argentina's Shock Saudi Arabia Loss

Lionel Messi

It has seemingly been revealed what Argentina captain Lionel Messi did following his nation's shock loss to Saudi Arabia in their 2022 FIFA World Cup opener.

Transfer Update: Lionel Messi

The 35-year-old has found himself under immense pressure after the South American giants were defeated in their first Group C encounter.

Messi scored as Argentina made a lively start to the match, but was unable to inspire a comeback as the Saudis claimed a historic 2-1 victory over their World Cup opponents.

According to Argentine journalist Gaston Edul, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner responded to the loss by organising a team meeting to ensure that the players stick together ahead of their game against Mexico this weekend.

Heading into the tournament, the Albiceleste had been praised for their togetherness following their 2021 Copa America win in Brazil, where they beat the host nation in the final thanks to a goal from Angel Di Maria.

On Tuesday afternoon, Messi was said to request that his compatriots remain calm amid the increasing pressure they have come under as Lionel Scaloni's men seek to avoid stumbling out of the tournament at the first hurdle.
