Masandawana Set To Host FIFA 23 Tournament With R200k Prize Pool

Masandawana and Mettlestate have teamed up to celebrate the club’s inclusion in the FIFA series with the Mamelodi Sundowns FIFA 23 Championship.

Mamelodi Sundowns and South African eSport organisers Mettlestate are set to host a FIFA 23 tournament with a hefty prize pool on offer.

What's the story?

Masandawana has collaborated with Mettlestate to celebrate the club's inclusion in EA Sports' FIFA series with the Mamelodi Sundowns FIFA 23 Championship.

Downs' inclusion in FIFA23 furthers their growing global appeal and opens them up to a whole new fan base, this FIFA tournament will also serve the same purpose.

Mamelodi Sundowns FIFA 23 Championship

Mamelodi Sundowns and Mettlestate announced in a press release that they'll be hosting a massive FIFA 23 tournament, with a prize pool of R200k and the finals to be held at the rAge 2022 expo. 

There will be four live qualifiers taking place in malls across the country, along with an online qualifier for gamers who can't make the live events.

"The top player from each live qualifier and the top 4 players from the online qualifiers will particpate in the top 8 finale. The finalists will be flown out to the top 8 tournament which will be held at the rAge Expo at the Gallagher Convention Centre from 9-11 December 2022," says the club in a press release. 

Masandawana chairman Tlhopie Motsepe, hopes that the launch of this tournament will bring excitement to the local esports community:

"Many of the people in our football club are fans of the FIFA series and are aware of the passion that South African gamers have towards the video game.

That is one of the reasons that the moment Mamelodi Sundowns was announced as the latest African team to be included in FIFA 23, we knew that we had to give our supporters and fans of the game a chance to celebrate with us," he says in the press release. 

Sundowns also released a timeline for the qualifiers for the tournament:

Online Qualifiers:

Registrations open: 15 November

Online qualifiers take place: 26 November

Finals: 9-11 December at rAge

Qualifier 1:V A Waterfront, Cape Town – 19 NovemberTop player goes to grand finals at rAge
