Pirates Fined By The PSL!

Orlando Pirates have been fined by the Premier Soccer League for spectator misbehaviour, the league has confirmed.

Earlier this month, it was confirmed by the PSL that Pirates charged by the league after their fans invaded the pitch following their MTN8 second leg semi-final victory against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Buccaneers defeated Sundowns 3-0 and went on to win the trophy after eliminating AmaZulu in final at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Through PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu, it has since been confirmed that Pirates have been fined R200 000 after appearing before the league's disciplinary committee.

"I can confirm that Orlando Pirates Football Club, earlier this morning, appeared before the PSL DC to answer to spectator misbehaviour. In that, their spectators or fans or supporters invaded the pitch after the final whistle in an MTN8 fixture at New Peter Mokaba Stadium on the 22nd October 2022. They pleaded guilty as charge and in the result and having listened to the submissions by both parties, representatives, the PSL DC sanctioned them as follows: a monetary fine in the amount of R200 000, half of which is suspended for the period of 24 months from today on condition that for the next 24 months they are not found guilty of the same offence again. Effectively, they would have to pay R100 000 plus 50% of the DC costs of the hearing for today," said Majavu.
