Premier League Urged To Cancel Final Round Of Matches Before World Cup

The Premier League have been urged to cancel the final round of fixtures before the FIFA World Cup to avoid any more serious injuries.

Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell is the latest player who will miss the World Cup after the club confirmed he suffered a hamstring injury.

Another Big Star Ruled Out Of 2022 FIFA World Cup

The final round of matches takes place a week before the World Cup gets underway, but former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O'Hara feels that round should be postponed.

"Cancel the last round of games in the Premier League, give them a bit of breathing space," O'Hara told talkSPORT.

"The Premier League should do it, or the players should get involved.

"This is the problem with the Premier League. It's all about money, all about getting the revenue in. The players are not being protected.

"It's as simple as that. There are too many games and too many injuries and England are going to suffer."

Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante and Manchester United defender Raphael Varane will both miss France's World Cup defence after picking up injuries a couple weeks ago.
