Maritzburg United have confirmed the departure of head coach John Maduka, following a poor start to the season.
Maduka's departure comes as no surprise, considering the difficult start the Team of Choice has had to the campaign, which sees them currently sitting bottom of the standings.

In a statement, Maritzburg also confirmed that Maduka's backroom staff has left.
"MUFC can confirm that Head Coach John Maduka has left the club with immediate effect. The Club has also terminated the contracts of Maduka's entire back room staff. We would like to thank John and his technical team for their efforts and wish them well for the future."

There was much expectation on Maduka after he joined Maritzburg from KZN rivals Royal AM, a club he led to a third place finish in the DStv Premiership last season after the owners bought the status of Bloemfontein Celtic.
Maduka, however, was unable to get positive results for the side. He leaves the club bottom of the Premiership standings, on 11 points after 13 matches. During that period, Maritzburg only registered two victories, against Orlando Pirates and Chippa United. They lost six times and drew matches.

Management felt it was time to part ways with the former Malawian international captain. Maduka is the second coach to be shown the door this week, after Sekhukhune United confirmed the departure of Kaitano Tembo.
