Erasmus: That’s The Memory People Always Remind Me Of

Kermit Erasmus

In-form Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Easmus has spoken about the fond memories of his previous Soweto Derby during his first spell with the Buccaneers.

Erasmus is one of the players who Kaizer Chiefs will have to be cautious of, as the two giants of South African football will clash in their first DStv Premiership match of the 2022/23 season this Saturday, with the 32-year-old having hit form and contributing massively to Bucs' resurgence since his arrival from Mamelodi Sundowns last month.

In his last league game for Pirates against Amakhosi in 2015, Erasmus was a hero after contributed in all three goals as Bucs defeated their perennial rivals 3-1 in what is arguably the biggest game in the PSL football calendar.

"The occasion is a special one, and it's a privilege and honour to be a part of it again now that I'm back home," said Erasmus, speaking on Pirates' official website.

"Obviously creating the three goals in a 3-1 win brings back fond memories for me personally. Everybody talks about the individual brilliance leading to the goals, but for me the whole team performance stands out along with the atmosphere. That's the memory that people always remind me of when it comes to the Derby. Hopefully, we can bring our supporters a similar kind of joy on the weekend," he said.

"We've got to build on previous performances and just try to be consistent because with being consistent, there's a lot of things you can achieve," the forward added.

On following in the footsteps of football legends like Jomo Sono and Jerry Sikhosana, who got to return to the club after having gone to play elsewhere, the striker said, and speaking via Bucs' website, "I don't think anyone has done what I've done in a long time. Especially coming back to a club like Pirates. It definitely is a great feeling and I'm happy to be back bringing back happy days to the 'Happy People'. That's what's important to me right now."
