Sundowns Breathe Sigh Of Relief Over Shalulile

They will have to make do without his services for the foreseeable future, but Mamelodi Sundowns can breathe a sigh of relief over striker, Peter Shalulile.

The 5-0 drubbing of Maritzburg United, was the fifth consecutive game the Namibian international missed for the Brazilians, with the cause of his problems revealed by the club.

According to Mokwena, Shalulile suffered from a sports-related hernia, although that was not quite the case, which made the injury complicated, as the coach initially explained when asked about the striker's absence.

"I said to you he's being attended to by specialists, he has undergone surgery but it's something that's not too much of a concern and hopefully we get him back as soon as possible – but for sure he is not available until the [FIFA] World Cup break is over," Mokwena told journalists.

"It was a bit of a very difficult diagnosis but related to a sports hernia, but not a sports hernia, that's why he had to see three different specialists. But fortunately, an incredible human being, good boy so you can expect him, without putting too much pressure on him, back sooner than we anticipate, but not as big as we thought," he added.

Asked whether the surgery the player underwent was successful, Mokwena gave the thumbs up and says that the player is making steady progress in his recovery.

"Very successful, he's on his way back. Hopefully we can get him on the green grass sooner than we think," Mokwena added.
