Lukaku's Chelsea Exit Imminent?

Lukaku's Chelsea Exit Imminent?

With Romelu Lukaku already shipped out to Inter Milan for the duration of the 2022/23 campaign, reports suggest that the end of his time at Chelsea is soon approaching.

Ronaldo Issues Statement After Being Dropped From Man Utd Squad

It seems that the Blues have become disillusioned with their club-record signing. The 29-year-old moved back to Stamford Bridge at the beginning of the 2021/22 season for a massive transfer fee of €113 million (R2 billion), and, while he enjoyed a decent start to life back in west London, his relationship with the club quickly deteriorated.

An explosive interview during the middle of the season coupled with injuries saw Lukaku fail to reach the heights he aspired to when he re-joined, before turning to the Nerazzurri on loan.

During his first stint at the San Siro, Lukaku etched himself into the club's history books by netting 65 goals in 98 games, culminating in him spearheading the attack that saw Inter capture their first league title in over a decade.

Now, Belgium's all-time top goalscorer looks like a shadow of the player that became Chelsea's most expensive-ever signing. Having played just three matches in Serie A all season so far, Lukaku has been plagued by muscular problems, something that has reportedly shocked Inter's staff.

Conte Shoots Down Spurs' Title Ambitions

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, however, the Italian giants are still eager on re-signing the forward on a permanent basis, with it being understood that both Chelsea and Inter have an agreement in place to extend Lukaku's loan by another year.

The same report suggests that, after the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, the 19-time Serie A champions will permanently re-sign the ex-Manchester United and Everton forward.

It seems new Blues owner Todd Boehly has conceded that it is unlikely that Chelsea will recoup the money the two-time European champions spent on Lukaku for and is eager to let him go.
