Benzema Reveals Where He Will Retire

After winning the 2022 Ballon d'Or award on Monday night, Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema revealed where he will retire when the time comes to end his career.

What Benzema Said After Winning Ballon d'Or

The 34-year-old claimed his maiden Ballon d'Or in Paris on Monday night, where he was the strong favourite to win the 2022 edition ahead of the likes of Sadio Mane and Robert Lewandowski following his incredible exploits for Los Blancos last season.

Benzema, who turns 35 in December, contributed to a staggering 59 goals as Real won the LaLiga and the UEFA Champions League titles before being handed the prestigious individual accolade, and spoke of his gratitude in the aftermath of his achievement.

Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, the 97-time France international gave an assured response when asked whether or not Real would be the last club he plays for.

"Yes, there are no other options," he told Onda Cero.

"For me, it was a dream to sign with Real Madrid. I had three dreams, to buy a house for my mother, to play for Real Madrid and to have a Ballon d'Or."

It has been 13 years since Benzema left Olympique Lyon to sign for the Spanish giants, with the forward having represented the Spanish club on 615 occasions and contributed to 488 goals.

Prior to his move to Los Blancos, the then-promising striker scored 66 times for Lyon and won four Ligue 1 titles as he gained a reputation for being among the leading young forwards in world football.

In claiming the 2022 Ballon d'Or, Benzema became the first Frenchman to win the accolade since Zinedine Zidane in 1998 and the oldest player to win it since Sir Stanley Matthews in 1956.
