With Juventus' already disastrous season going from bad to worse, club chairman Andrea Agnelli has admitted he is ashamed amid deafening calls for manager Massimiliano Allegri to be sacked.
Barca's Top Transfer Target For Next Season Revealed?
The Bianconeri's 2022/23 campaign seems to be taking a turn for the worst as the club continues to suffer from uncharacteristically poor results.
On Tuesday night, Juve were beaten 2-0 by Israeli side Maccabi Haifa in the UEFA Champions League to seal their third defeat in the competition already this season – prior to this campaign, the Old Lady had never lost three of their first four matches in the tournament's group stage.
After that defeat, it was not the players or coaching staff who spoke to the media but club chairman Agnelli, who expressed his displeasure with the team but also insisted that Allegri would not be fired.
"This is a difficult night in a difficult period. It is one of the most difficult periods and the moment to take responsibility, which is why I am here," Agnelli told Sky Sports Italia.
"I feel ashamed for what is happening, I am angry, but I also know that football is played with 11 men, you lose and win with 11.
"In a situation like this, it's not about one person. It's a matter to be dealt with by a whole group.
"We feel ashamed, we apologise to our fans because we know they must feel ashamed to walk around at the moment.
"Allegri is the coach of Juventus and he will remain as the coach of Juventus."
Agnelli substantiated his backing of the six-time Scudetto-winning manager by claiming that compensation for the Italian tactician was not a factor to consider if they were to fire Allegri.
"No, no, you are completely off track here. It cannot be the fault of the coach if we don't win a single tackle on the field," he added.
"Juventus have always evaluated situations at the end of the year. I always struggled to consider dismissal during a season and I continue to believe that.
