Messi Makes UCL History With Latest Stunner!

Messi Makes UCL History With Latest Stunner!

Lionel Messi made competition history when he broke the deadlock in Paris Saint-Germain's 1-1 draw with Benfica in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

Transfer Update: N'Golo Kante

Les Parisiens' renowned front three of Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe all linked up for the tie's opener, when the Argentine icon found the back of the net in the 22nd minute to see PSG take the lead against the Portuguese giants at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon on Wednesday night.

The Ligue 1 leaders' lead was short-lived, though, as the record Primeira Liga champions levelled matters through a Danilo Pereira own goal 19 minutes later. Neither side scored another goal as the game ended all square.

Messi's strike, however, was historic in terms of Europe's premier club competition as Benfica became the 40th different opposition the diminutive Argentine has found the back of the net against in the 18 years he has been playing in the UCL, more than any other player in the tournament's history.

His goal also ensured that it was the first time in four years the playmaker scored in six successive games for club and country, as per ESPN.

Mane Reveals His Ballon D'Or Pick

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner will have another opportunity to score against the Eagles when the two sides meet again next week Tuesday. Both teams have the same number of points in Group H and will be looking to secure passage to the knockout stages as soon as possible when matchday four comes around.
