Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has reportedly made contract demands to the club's owners regarding the playing squad after an inconsistent start to the 2022/23 season.

According to The Telegraph, Ten Hag has told the Glazer family to put a halt on any contract renewals until after the FIFA World Cup later this year, with the Dutch tactician keen to see which players deserve new deals and who needs to be moved on.
In the past, it was often claimed the United hierarchy awarded contract extensions to players who did not merit them, thus creating a false economy around depreciating assets.
That was when Ed Woodward was vice-chairman at the club, but it appears Ten Hag is eager to dispel this narrative.
Luke Shaw, Cristiano Ronaldo, David de Gea, Fred, Phil Jones, Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot are among 12 players who are now in the final year of their current deals in the red half of Manchester, but before handing out any new contracts, the manager wants to establish who has the stomach and the quality to help the Red Devils return to the summit of European football.
"He's still in that phase of 'Let's see how people are, let's see what they are up to'," a source from the club said, as per The Telegraph.
"How they adjust, how they handle pressure, how they handle not being picked, how they deal with different challenges.
"He's still understanding them, and over the next month or so he'll start getting clarity in his head."
