Lakay Decision A Reality Check For Downs Players

Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Brent Carelse says players at the club should be ready for anything, especially when new signings are made, in light of the situation involving Lyle Lakay.

Despite being the reigning DStv Premiership defender of the season, and a key component in the squad, Lakay has been sent out on loan to Cape Town City. His move came days after Sundowns acquired the services of Terrence Mashego from the Citizens.

"It was a surprise for me that Sundowns sent Lyle on loan, but I also think that they brought in something in a similar, so it meant that one person in that department had to leave because there were going to be too many numbers in that position. That's the decision that club made. They could have let anybody else in that position go and the same question would have been asked," Carelse told the Siya crew.

"With Lyle, I am surprised that he has left, but he is a quality player and he will contribute to the team (at City). He offers a lot going forward, with assists and goalscoring. He is good with dead ball situations and his mentality of winning things will also add value. But I feel, in general, you need to be ready for anything. You never know, you might leave or you might need to stay and fight for your place. Being in that squad, you need to be on your toes and be ready for anything."
