Chiefs Enticed By Overseas Interest In Stellies Star

Chiefs Enticed By Overseas Interest In Stellies Star

Stellenbosch could be open to losing one of their budding youngers after it emerged that he attracted interest from overseas.

Soccer Laduma reported in edition 1291 that Stellenbosch winger Solly Khunyedi has attracted interest from an unnamed club in Scotland.

The Cape Winelands outfit have assembled a group of quality youngsters who were crowned the DStv Diski Challenge champions last season.

The reserve title win gave Stellies entry into the English Premier League Next Gen Cup, where they were also crowned champions for the midlands group after hammering hosts Leicester City 7-2 in the final.

According to Siya sources within the club, a Scottish team has made an enquiry about Khunyedi and the team won't stand in his way should the opportunity be formalised.

Interest in the 20-year old could also put Kaizer Chiefs on alert after the Soweto giants showed interest in some other Stellenbosch youngsters in recent months.

Soccer Laduma previously reported that Chiefs were keen on signing Stellenbosch academy products Fuad Johnson and Roy-Keane Avontuur.

The Siya crew had gathered information that Amakhosi scouts were attracted to Johnson and Avontuur after their impressive showing in the Bayhill tournament.

After Johnson, who was a top scorer for Stellies in the reserve side last season left the club, he was invited to an assessment at Chiefs, Soccer Laduma understands, although he seemingly did not make a lasting impression during his trial.

Before resigning Zitha Kwinika, in a double swoop that included Ashley Du Preez, Amakhosi were also interested in signing Stellies defender Athenkosi Mcaba, as previously reported by the Siya crew.

Chiefs' close proximity to Steve Barker's charges could also see them register their interest in Khunyedi.

Zwane has shown willingness to work with younger players and the club could still be in the look out to bolster the side with quality young players.

The 20-year old could bring much needed competition on the left wing position at Chiefs, where Kgaogelo Sekgota does not have much competition, apart from Keagan Dolly, who is preferred on the right side of attack by Zwane.

The relationship between the Glamour Boys and Stellies looks to be very good after Du Preez and Kwinika made a switch to the Naturena-based side.
