On Thursday, Soccer Laduma broke the news broke that Reyaad Pieterse and Kaizer Chiefs had failed to reach an agreement regarding a new contract for the 24-year-old goalkeeper. Amakhosi have had an interesting saga between the sticks this year. So, in the eyes of the supporters, is it good luck or good riddance for Pieterse?
There has been a series of different faces in Chiefs' goals this season. The club was spun into confusion following yet another injury to Itumeleng Khune. Pieterse featured often and put in some solid performances, but whenever Khune was again available for selection, the former Shamrock Rovers man would find himself sitting on the bench again.
The supporters seem torn. Some think the Glamour Boys do not need the young shot-stopper, and that no one is bigger than the team so he is free to leave…
"Rejecting a Khosi offer is like rejecting life, and you'll regret that, like Masenamela." – Mix n Match
"Let him be." – Radipudi
Others believe Pieterse is within his right to leave as he is good enough to be a No. 1 elsewhere, but history tends to favour Khune, and regardless of form, "Itu" tends to get chosen. This was proved in the January Soweto Derby, when "Spider Kid" was rushed back into action and ended up being subbed off during the game.
"He is right. How can you be on form, and then Khune comes back from injury and he is relegated to the bench again? Any person would get frustrated, go to a team where you will be appreciated." – Tong
Most supporters, however, do not want to be drawn into who could be right or wrong in the situation, recognising that this is all merely football and business, and even thanked Pieterse for his services.
"One of the best talents Chiefs have ever had." – Masterlu
"Good luck and thanks for your contributions." – Tikzoe
Will Chiefs miss Pieterse, or will Pieterse miss Chiefs?
