In today's edition of Supporters Club Did You Know, we bring you the story of the first time a multi-racial South African squad was assembled. It was a magical team that achieved a magical result.
Back then, the national team was still called the Springboks. They assembled on 9 April 1977 in Rand Stadium, Johannesburg. It was the first multi-racial team assembled in South Africa. They played against Zimbabwe (then known as Rhodesia) in front of 30 000 fans. Included in the team were the likes of Patrick "Ace" Ntsoelengoe, Rodney Kitchen, and Banks Setlhodi, and the South Africans ripped the Rhodesians to shreds in a 7-0 demolition.
