The season is nearing its conclusion, and the crowd seems to have thrown their towel in and, possibly prematurely, have crowned Mamelodi Sundowns as champions. One thing everyone seems to have forgot, though, is that Bidvest Wits are still in it. Only four points separate the two teams, and they still have to play each other…
"The ball is in our court."
This was the opinion of Wits superfan Mpho Ramahlo.
Mpho believes the league will not be won until Sundowns and Wits meet each other on 11 May.
"The game against Sundowns will determine the league champion."
When asked if he was worried that certain stars such as Phakamani Mahlambi and Sibusiso Vilakazi owill leave at the end of the seaosn, he was sure the squad had enough depth to carry on thriving.
"We still have guys like Ntshangase and Keene to carry us through. We lost Mahlambi and still won games after that."
So, the league is not dead and buried, it's not over until the fat lady sings… Or until Sundowns or Wits lose a game. Four points is a delicate margin to play with, and, lest we forget, there is the Gavin Hunt factor – the man knows how to win the league and he knows how to do it with a dark horse too.
Could this be the season for an upset? Will Wits steal the show?
