Joel "Fire" Seroba is in the building, and is answering some of your questions. Today, he discusses what keeps him busy, his relationship with Steve Komphela, and his greatest moments as a player.
What are you currently busy with? – Shabza26
Nothing. I don't have a job, I just play dices to take care of my family. I would like to give back to football, but things have not been working out for me yet. If you can check, almost all the teams I played for are now either struggling or no longer exist. The likes of Real Rovers, Moroka Swallows, Cape Town Spurs, Hellenic, Dynamos, and many others. The administration is very poor.
Of the 10 teams you played for, which was the best? – Jay002
I remember at Ria Stars I played with the likes of Thabang Lebese, Andries Sebola, Lucky Lekgwathi, and Rodney Thobejane. That was a united team. We were close both on and off the field, which is key in football.
Tell us about your relationship with Steve Komphela. We heard it got pretty heated at one point? – Nikolaos Kirkinis
He was a good friend of mine, even now. At first, I thought he didn't like me because he would bench me while I was the top striker in the team and would score goals whenever I came on as a substitute, but he knew why he was doing that. After some time, I realised that he was using me as his secret weapon. He's one of the people I admire, even today.
What were your best moments during your playing days? – Rodney Mashego
I remember one match when I was playing for Dynamos. I was the team's top goalscorer but I was on the bench. In the second half, when Hellenic were leading by one goal to nil, I came on as a substitute and scored two goals and assisted a further four. I also remember scoring a hat-trick against Orlando Pirates. I also remember coming on as a substitute with 15 minutes to go and won the Man of the Match award while playing for Bush Bucks.
