The ex-Mamelodi Sundowns boss had been in charge of the Moroccan side since the start of the 2024/25 season but has come under increasing pressure due to poor performances.

Moroccan reports suggested that Mokwena would officially be sacked on Friday 26 April, and would not lead the team at the FIFA Club World Cup in June.

However, the ex-Chippa United boss has come under fire for allegedly failing to attend a press conference after Wydad's 1-1 draw against Olympique d'Asifi on Wednesday 23 April, Le360 Sport reported.

The Central Disciplinary and Sportsmanship Committee of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has issued a fine of 20,000 dirhams (R40,710) after the coach failed to attend a press conference after the game.

According to Le Site Info, disciplinary regulations state that all coaches must attend press conferences after league games.

Mokwena had reportedly answered some questions but did not show up in the press conference room without any justification.

However, the reports are unclear as to whether the fine has been issued to Mokwena or Wydad.
