Gido Vader of Feyenoord, who have just won their first Eredivisie title in 18 years, and Rasthoem Simons of Simsport visited the Soccer Laduma offices to chat about the Free State International Football Programme (FSIFP), which gives young talents in the Free State province the chance of a lifetime.
Players such as SuperSport United youngster Teboho Mokoena and Bloemfontein Celtic's Tshegofatso Mabasa came through the programme, which focuses on football talent development as well as education.
The biggest success story to date is Tyrone Mondi, scouted in a township as a 14-year-old, who never played any structured football before and went on to be invited to former Premier League side Bolton Wanderers' football studies programme.
Mondi also spent a week at Feyenoord but at the age of 18 it was slightly to late in his football career. Upon his return to South Africa, he had offers from PSL clubs in South Africa but decided to take on a scholarship in the US.
Hear more about Mondi, Mokoena, Mabasa as well as former Feyenoord players Mokotjo and Erasmus in this special episode of SL Radio.
