Young South African Coach Ruan Meyer Avails Himself For PSL Role

An up and coming South African coach has made himself available for a role in the Premier Soccer League.

Having previously worked at Ajax Cape Town as a youth coach, Ruan Meyer is keen to work in Mzansi's topflight or in the second tier, as reported in edition 1198 of Soccer Laduma.

The 26-year-old is on course to complete his UEFA A Licence as he looks to develop his coaching career further.

"I'm busy doing my UEFA A Licence, which is the level just underneath PRO, but due to the pandemic, I couldn't travel (overseas). I'm doing it through the Football Association of Ireland. I came to Jo'burg to finish up some of my practical assignments so that I can send it off and hopefully get my A Licence," Meyer told the Siya crew.

"I am definitely looking to get into the professional set-up because I started very amateurish and I am trying to get the experience. At the end of the day, you can have such a nice CV and the qualifications, but with no experience, nobody is going to take a gamble on you, especially as a 26-year-old," he said.

"Most of the time, the players are going to be older than you and if you don't have the experience, it's going to be difficult. I'm definitely looking to get into the professional set-up either in the PSL (DStv Premier-ship) or NFD (GladAfrica Championship), and hopefully one day I will progress from there to go and coach overseas," the coach added.
