It was a weekend where the chasing pack were hoping to close the gap on Mamelodi Sundowns, who were in CAF Champions League yet again, but for the most part came up short.

First up was Orlando Pirates, who failed to get past AmaZulu FC on Friday in what was a highly entertaining and dramatic 1-1 draw where the Buccaneers missed a penalty, with particularly Veli Mothwa standing between them and victory.

On Saturday, it was Kaizer Chiefs' turn to attempt to go for top spot, but they found a resolute Chippa United, who, in the end, secured a crucial 2-1 victory. It must be note the Soweto giants missed a lot of chances and paid for it dearly as they now sit in fourth spot.

For their part, early pacesetters Richards Bay FC could not break the solid defensive wall of Maritzburg United as the two KwaZulu-Natal sides played out to a 0-0 draw. Meanwhile, Stellenbosch FC conceded at the death to draw 1-1 away to Golden Arrows, with the visitors' bench calling the officiating on the day into question.

It remains to be seen if Downs will capitalize further and pull away from the chasing pack as they return to domestic action against Gallants on Wednesday.

With that brief summary of the weekend's results, have a go at selecting your Team of the Week and see how close you get to the official Soccer Laduma selection.
