Over the course of the 2016 calendar year, Pitso Mosimane's side picked up an impressive 64 points from their 27 games, losing just three times and scoring a grand total of 53 goals.
To put that into perspective, their nearest rivals over the last 12 months have been Bidvest Wits. Gavin Hunt's side picked up 56 points despite playing 31 times – four games more than Downs.
Sundowns also outscored their closest goalscoring counterparts, SuperSport United (46) by seven goals, even though – once again – they'd played substantially less matches (27/32).
Sundowns also boast the best Absa Premiership defence of 2016. The Brazilians conceded only 18 goals, eight less than Wits, who are in second place with 26 conceded.
Of the 14 teams that spent the entirety of 2016 in the top-flight, Free State Stars have lost more games (16) and picked up less points (34) than anyone else in the division, while Polokwane City have conceded the most goals (48).
Ajax Cape Town (35) played more league games than the other club, and Bloemfontein Celtic (14) drew the most games.
