Former Kaizer Chiefs striker and seasoned coach Wedson Nyirenda is believed to be assessing options for a potential return to the South African topflight, even as his name continues to be linked with other clubs elsewhere.
Nyirenda is one of the coaches who were recently linked with the head coach position at Matlama FC in Lesotho.

The 58-year-old tactician emerged as one of the frontrunners for the Matlama job, which has attracted a mix of local and international applicants following the departure of Halemakale Mahlaha.
However, Siya sources have indicated that Nyirenda is eager to return to the Betway Premiership, where he previously enjoyed a successful stint with Baroka FC – most notably guiding the Limpopo outfit to the Telkom Knockout title in 2018, one of the club’s biggest achievements to date.
“Coach Wada (Nyirenda) is assessing his options,” a source close to the situation revealed. “His representatives have already been in contact with at least two clubs in the Betway Premiership. There is clear interest, and it’s more about finding the right fit for his next project,” added the source.
Nyirenda’s coaching resume continues to impress. He recently led a locally based Zambia side at the COSAFA Cup in the Free State, and he is also expected to take charge of the national team during the upcoming CHAN tournament in August.

Domestically, the Zambian tactician boasts multiple achievements with Zesco United and Zanaco and has had coaching stints in Mozambique adding to Mzansi, where he’s still remembered fondly by Baroka supporters.
“He’s not rushing. His focus is on the CHAN project with Zambia, but at the same time, he’s open to returning to South African football, a space he knows well and where he still feels he has a lot to offer,” concluded the source.
