Vasco da Gama's professional setup which recently broke away from Parow Park will be playing all their NFD matches under the umbrella of Stellenbosch FC, following a decision by club boss, Mario Ferreira, to rename his franchise.
This news was confirmed by Vasco's amateur chairman, Phillip Ribeiro.
"Ferreira called me to say they'd changed the name," he told Soccer Laduma.
"Obviously it was better for everybody. We didn't want to have any confusion because you can't have Vasco in Parow and in Stellenbosch.
"People must know that Vasco da Gama haven't folded or changed. The original Vasco which was formed in 1980 remains in Parow Park. That's where the juniors play and the place where everybody associates Vasco da Gama with. The reality is that Vasco is the amateur club. The professional franchise was only using the name."
Regarding the possibility of purchasing an ABC Motsepe League franchise, Ribeiro believes that will take some time.
"Right now there isn't really a plan. Maybe we'll have a gap for a year before deciding," he concluded.
