A reliable source at Maritzburg United has proposed a theory as to why the club have struggled with injuries so much this season.
The Team of Choice are already without the services of Nhlanhla Vilakazi, Delron Buckley, David Booysen, Ashley Hartog and Mohamed Yakubu due to injuries.
Hartog and Yakubu picked up niggles during the club's recent 1-1 draw with Moroka Swallows and are expected to be evaluated this week to assess the extent of the injuries. Vilakazi, Buckley and Booysen picked up long term injuries earlier in the season.
Despite the injury hoodoo that has struck the club, Ernst Middendorp's charges have still managed to collect a creditable eight points from their opening six matches.
A Maritzburg source explained to the Siya crew why the club has been so unfortunate with injuries up to now.
"A lot of the injuries have been contact injuries. With the exception of Hartog's hamstring strain, a lot of the guys have taken knocks to the knees and ankles in collisions. It's been a combination of the players getting stuck-in and coming out worse and bad luck. It's possible that the physically commited brand of football that Maritzburg play has also contributed to the injuries," said the source.
