Chiefs Sold Ditlhokwe To Sign Al Ittihad Striker?

Insiders with knowledge of the situation at Naturena added that securing Orebonye from AS FAR proved challenging for Chiefs, prompting an agreement with Al-Ittihad involving Ditlhokwe.

"It is a tricky situation but that is what Chiefs and Al-Ittihad are working on. Chiefs wanted Orebonye from AS FAR but could not get him and it's believed that they apparently discussed with the Libyan side on how the sale of Ditlhokwe could land them Orebonye, so they (the Libyan club) can keep him until the next transfer window. So, that's the situation how Chiefs could get Orebonye. They had to sacrifice the defender to get the striker for next season. AS FAR could have not released or sold the Botswana international to their former coach Nasreddine Nabi and that's why it's believed that Chiefs had to make this arrangement with Il-Ittihad as one way of signing one of their targeted strikers," the Siya source stated.

A second insider stated that this plan does not preclude Amakhosi from pursuing additional striker options to bolster their frontline for next season.

"Yes, there is a plan in place on how they could sign Tumisang (Orebonye) from Il-Ittihad next season but he is not the only striker they are looking at. They still have other targets but they will apparently use the arrangement they have agreed with the Libyan side to sign Orebonye. They need other options as well though," the second source stated.

The 28-year-old Botswana international was signed by AS FAR by current Chiefs coach Nabi in January 2024 from Algerian club USM Alger and he then became one of Kaizer Chiefs' top targets after the Tunisian mentor replaced Cavin Johnson as head coach.

Soccer Laduma reached out to Chiefs for comment on the matter, but there was no response at the time of publication.
