From all walks of life, tributes continue to pour in for Doctor Kumalo's mother Mable Khumalo, who has sadly passed away.
The devastating news of mama Khumalo's passing was confirmed by PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza in a special tribute last night (Tuesday).
Former Chiefs midfielder Junior Khanye, who had the privilege of working alongside Doctor during his time at Amakhosi, said "I am so sorry for what happened to Doctor Khumalo's family. Mdokisi (Doctor) is a grootman (big brother) that looked after me very well at Kaizer Chiefs when I started there. He welcomed me well from the time I started in the development and all the way to the senior team. He used to encourage me and show me the way about professional football. He used to tell me that I was one of the best talents and that I had the potential to conquer the world. He was the first person to tell me that Jabu (Mahlangu, and formerly known as Pule) would have been nothing compared to me if I had had enough chance to showcase my talent. I am saying this now while still having the utmost respect for Jabu, which I have always had."
"We sincerely thank Doctor's mother for the son she has in Doctor – the icon of South African football. I know Doctor is a big man and will go through this, though it won't be easy. May Doctor's mother's soul rest in peace. I also feel the pain because of my admiration for Doctor, as he and Thabo Mooki were my idols at Chiefs. Doctor is one of the people that I feel I disappointed a lot (with the much-publicised off the field antics at the time)! Okay, Farouk Khan at Chiefs development made me understand about being at the club, but Doctor also played a part in teaching me further about the club's culture when I joined the senior team. I thank his mother for all of those teachings I got from Doctor," Khanye told he Siya crew.
