SuperSport United have confirmed Gavin Hunt as their new coach ahead of the 2022/23 season, making a return almost 10 years after leaving the club to join Bidvest Wits in 2013.
The Siya crew reported earlier this week that the former Kaizer Chiefs coach is on the verge of rejoining Matsatsantsa, who have been in the market for a new coach after parting ways with Kaitano Tembo in April.
A three-time league winner with SuperSport, Hunt was last in a coaching hot seat last year, before he was shown the door by Chippa United. He has been itching to make a return to topflight football and will coach a side he knows well, though a lot has changed since he left in 2013.
Since then, SuperSport have focused less on going for the league title and have spent more time promoting players which they have gone on to sell. They have not been too busy in the market over the last few years and it remains to be seen if they will give the former Kaizer Chiefs mentor a chance to bring in his own players, or whether he will be tasked with working with the current crop of players.
The Siya crew has been informed that Lehlohonolo Seema is one of the coaches that the club considered for the coaching role, but ended up going for Hunt, who joins Matsatsantsa on a two-year deal.
