Mpontshane joined the Buccaneers in January of the 2014/15 season following an impressive spell at his former club Platinum Stars.
Initially the 29-year-old struggled to establish himself at Pirates, however as of late he has been given the chance to prove himself and, he has pointed to his performance in the Soweto Derbies to underline his progression.
"In my opinion, I think I have given a very good account of myself, especially in the Derby games. To play in a derby match for the first time and not concede silly goals is a big achievement," Mpontshane told Soccer Laduma.
"Look at the goal I conceded in the game we won 3-1 (against Chiefs). It was not my mistake. I think I was let down by the defence after they failed to pick up Erick Mathoho on the far post.
"Even the goals I conceded when we lost 2-0 to Golden Arrows... as a keeper, there was nothing I could do and people can't blame me for that."
