Although it was initially reported that Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana defender, Siyabonga Sangweni, was be expected to make his come back to PSL action in Bucs' opening 2013/14 Absa Premiership campaign against AmaZulu at the FNB Stadium, the 31-year-old will have to wait a few more weeks for his return to competitive football.
Sangweni is close to overcoming a knee injury which kept him out for over three months, with the Pirates hard man only resuming light training recently.
A high ranking official at the club revealed to the Siya crew that Sangweni will join the rest of his teammates in the next week for full training.
The source said, "Siya has been doing extremely well in his training. He needs to get some game-time now to see how he does. We have two friendlies lined up over the next week. We have one against a team from Tanzania on Friday and another one on Tuesday, so Siya will play in both those games."
Orlando Pirates have a tight few weeks, with the club involved in Absa Premiership, MTN8 and CAF Champions League action. Sangweni will be a welcome addition at the back for Bucs, to help keep the team's defence firm.
"The games are coming thick and fast. We are trying to win every trophy we are involved in, so we'll need all of our players. If he comes through both games, then he'll be back in contention for selection," added the source.
