Southern Africa Backing Motsepe For Another Term In CAF Presidency

With South African billionaire and former Mamelodi Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe understood to be keen on continuing in his role as the Confederation of African Football president on another term, several football associations around the continent are supporting him.  

The next CAF presidential elections are scheduled for March 2025 and Motsepe has previously spoken highly of the progress made in the continent's governing of football under his leadership.

Earlier today, SAFA president Danny Jordaan called an urgent press conference at SAFA House where members of the media were addressed on the latest developments, and it has since emerged that he along with leaders of football associations on the continent have confirmed their endorsement of Motsepe for another term in CAF's highest office.

Other influential leaders who are endorsing Motsepe for a second term are the football associations of Zambia, Botswana, Malawi, and Eswatini. 

Last week, it was confirmed from CAF that Motsepe has agreed to stand for presidency at the request of CAF member association presidents.

"Following requests from numerous CAF Member Association Presidents, Zonal Union Presidents and key stakeholders, the CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe has finally agreed to stand as a candidate at the CAF Presidential Elections scheduled for March 2025," CAF said in their statement.

Motsepe was elected as president during the 43rd CAF's general assembly in Morocco in March 2021.
