Patrice Carteron Has Confirmed That He Turned Down Kaizer Chiefs

Patrice Carteron

New Al Ahly head coach, Patrice Carteron, has confirmed turning down Kaizer Chiefs before deciding to pen a two-year deal with the Egyptian giants.   Read: Amakhosi Confirm Player Exits The Siya crew reported recently that the Amakhosi had identified Carteron, who was with Phoenix Rising before making a return to Egypt, although they pulled out of the deal due to his high wage demands.   Ahly, however, didn't seem to be put off by the money that the former CAF Champions League was chasing, and moved swiftly to hand him a two-year deal in Cairo as they seek to return to winning ways in continental competition this season.   Carteron admitted that he had had interest from both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns – possibly amid talk of a sabbatical for Pitso Mosimane – but decided to take Ahly's offer.   According to KingFUT, the Frenchman said, "I am very to sign with Al Ahly which is the African football's giant. I am still young but I possess great experience I earned through my spells with TP Mazembe and Wadi Degla."   "Negotiations were finalised rapidly. I will fight in order to lead Al Ahly to win titles and make the fans happy. I committed to my word with the Red Devils and terminated my deal with Phoenix Rising by mutual consent. I had other offers from Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs but the priority was definitely for Al Ahly."   Chiefs are expected to finalise their new head coach in the coming weeks, and will return for preseason on June 25th.
