NFD Focus: Shaun Poggenpoel
In this week's edition of Soccer Laduma, Milano United's veteran defender, Shane Poggenpoel, talks to Soccer Laduma's Peter Raath about his team's slump. He also discusses youngsters, the team's chairman and promotion - with the NFD Focus brought to you by BUCO. Poggenpoel voiced that Eezy My Kinnes have had a slight improvement from last season, though they have not quite reached the targets they set. "Although we set targets for ourselves in those five games, we didn't reach those objectives so we need to sort that out quickly. The current one wasn't as bad as the last one when we went seven games without a win or picking up points. I therefore think we're improving. "There's no talk of winning the league or going for promotion. We need to concentrate, taking one game at a time. The mistake we made was looking too far ahead. Football is unpredictable, especially in this league where the team on top can lose to the one at the bottom When asked about what has changed since head coach Ian Palmer parted ways with the team recently, the veteran defender said, " Obviously the results haven't gone the way we wanted them to so management felt we needed a change. I'm sure Theo will try to get our confidence up again. He gained lots of experience in the past two seasons under Ian and I am more than positive that he'll bring the best out of us. "I was sitting on the bench, then was out of the squad, then back. You know how things are in football – one coach plays a certain style and if you don't suit it, then you must just wait your time and work hard. The former Matsatsantsa a Pitori man also heaped praise on the club's upcoming youngsters. "Tshowana Mokonyana has done very well since he came from Vasco. He's a brainy player… a breath of fresh air on the right wing. Nuzhad Pail had an excellent debut in our 2-2 draw with Baroka. He created both goals. He has very good basics, vision and a great passing ability, which he first picked up as a junior at SuperSport United. Shaun also lauded the club's chairman who is giving full support to the team. "We can't complain about anything from the boss. He's put everything he has into this club, and has really given us his blessing and full support. In conclusion, Poggenpoel, played his cards very close to his chest regarding promotion, but tipped the ever-improving Golden Arrows to make an immediate return to the elite football league, the PSL. "Golden Arrows are my favourites. They've done really well. It's for them to lose it. As far as Milano is concerned, it's better to be the hunter than being hunted the whole time. We have a good vibe in the team which will carry us through the rest of the season, " he concluded.
